Programs for ages 5- 13 yrs

In Person Classes for ages 1- 13 are available in Cresskill, Fort Lee, Ridgefield, Elisabeth Morrow, Fort Lee School 3, on Zoom, and in other local schools. Call or email for more information!
 
Some of the classes below are available at all locations; others are only available in select schools/ rec centers.
 
VERBAL COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Public Speaking I for ages 5.5- 8 yrs
Min 4 kids- Max 8 kids

Teacher: Miss Momo, experienced teacher, creator of this program, instructor at The School of the New York Times, graduate of NYU

This class will introduce kids to the art of public speaking at an age appropriate level, increasing their confidence and comfort with speaking in front of a group.  Kids will learn to express their ideas, present before a group, and listen effectively. They will also learn positive body language, vocal projection, and how to manage nerves.  Kids will play games that make public speaking fun, and will deliver prepared and “pop” presentations.  We will have final presentations on the last day of class, which parents are invited to attend.  New lessons & topics every semester.

 

Public Speaking II for ages 8.5- 12 yrs

This class will build children’s public speaking skills, increasing confidence and comfort with speaking in front of a group.  Kids will learn to communicate effectively, and give academic and informal presentations.  They will also learn positive body language, vocal projection, how to remove filler words (ex. like, um), and how to manage nerves.  Kids will play games that make public speaking fun, and they will deliver both prepared and “pop” presentations on the spot.  Parents are invited to attend the last day of class for the kids’ final presentations. New lessons & topics every semester.

 

Persuasive Speech and Debate for ages 9.5- 13 yrs

In this high-spirited class, kids will develop their persuasion and debate skills. They will learn to deliver persuasive presentations and participate in class-wide debates on a variety of topics.  They will also learn techniques to help them become more confident and convincing speakers, and back up their arguments with proof and supporting details.  This class can be taken alongside Public Speaking II.

 

WRITTEN COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Creative Writing for ages 8.5- 12 yrs
Min 4 kids- Max 9 kids

This creative writing class will prove to be an asset for children as they build on their writing and reading skills in a fun and exciting way! Kids will use their distinctive imaginations and knowledge to write during every class (ex. creative stories, movie scenes, write a new law, etc.).  Each class will be tailored to the students’ individual ages and abilities. By the end of the program, kids will have a Google Doc containing their edited compositions.  New projects every semester. Classes take place on Zoom and Google Docs simultaneously. 

 

Writing II for ages 9.5- 13 yrs

This writing class geared toward older children will feature more challenging writing projects each week, while maintaining the customization aspect of the Creative Writing (ages 8-12) class.  The class will include both fiction and nonfiction projects, ranging from narrative works to descriptive prose, and will include one big project at the end of the semester— students can choose a fiction or nonfiction option.  Each class will be tailored to the students’ individual ages and abilities. New projects every semester. Classes take place on Zoom and Google Docs simultaneously.

  

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Word Worms for ages 9.5- 13 yrs
Min 5 kids- Max 10 kids

From elementary school to the SAT and college, words will follow you everywhere!  This class will feature words in a fun and useful way, offering tips and tricks for finding the meaning of vocabulary in context, understanding word roots, decoding prefixes and suffixes, and more.  Each week, kids will learn new words and practice using them, familiarize themselves with common prefixes/suffixes (ex. pre-, dis-, -able), and reinforce their spelling skills and command of the English language. New material every semester.

 

French Club for ages 7- 12 yrs
Min 4 kids- Max 8 kids

In this new class, kids will learn and practice the French language through fun lessons, games, and activities.  Kids will learn useful phrases, pronunciation, and common vocabulary.  This class can serve as your child’s introduction to French or as a supplement to their French language education.  This class focuses on spoken French; kids will not be required to write.  One of Miss Momo’s degrees is in French language from NYU. New material every semester.
